I didn't have a telescope when I was a kid, but some nights, particularly during meteor showers, we'd take our sleeping bags out to the patio to watch the stars fall until we fell asleep. We lived in a place not yet spoiled by light pollution, so you could see lots and lots of stars.

This made me think of that.
